Harness the Power of Social Media to Promote Your Purchase

After spending hours searching for new products for your store and days spent anxiously awaiting their arrival, they’re finally in your hands and all you want to do is tell everyone about them.

If you’re familiar with social media, you know just how easy it is to spread the word about your new arrivals, best sellers, and seasonal hits. But if you're not active on social media, here’s something to consider: it can be one of your biggest assets AND it’s easy.

You may be hesitant to post your first picture, self-conscious of your follower count, or even nervous about how many 'likes' you get, but the easiest way to overcome those qualms is to just start. Simply taking 15 minutes out of your day to snap a picture & post it, can help in generating more of a following.

Social media is a great opportunity for you to build your store’s brand and tell your story. It serves as an extension of your store and should be used with the goal of encouraging your current and prospective customers to visit you.

Here are a few ways to do it.

Facebook

Facebook is the most powerful social network. Its reach is unmatched and it’s often the de facto channel for people to use when starting out. In fact, it’s highly likely most of your customers are already on Facebook.

They’re looking for what’s new in the world and their community by scrolling through their feed and by snapping a photo an eye-catching display or a video of you testing out new products, you can offer them something new.

Beyond photos and videos, if you’ve got an in-store event, create a Facebook Event and encourage your customers to 'like' and 'share.' And if you’re interested in hosting a Grommet Gift Night, contact your Merchandising Consultant who can help you choose inventory.

Instagram

Instagram is a highly visual medium. It comes loaded with a variety of tools that can enhance your photography even if you don’t consider yourself a photographer.

Like Facebook, it’s a great way to showcase products selling well as well as unique features of your store. Beyond the photo itself, there a few tips to keep in mind. Using your town/city’s location is great for letting people know where your store is and allows people to find it when they're searching by location. Likewise, using hashtags such as #ShopLocal #ShopSmall, and #SmallBiz can help gain traction with like-minded users, including new followers and customers.

Instagram stories are a more informal and great way for your current followers to see what's new and interesting on a daily basis. Stories may not have the same photographic quality as a post would, but it's a great way to experiment. Keep in mind, most people click through Instagram stories quickly so if a product needs more explanation, feel free to post the same product multiple times in a row with different text and effects.

Our biggest advice for Instagram is to have fun with it. Between Boomerangs, stop-motion, reversed videos, filters, fonts & emojis, Instagram is a great place for you to unleash you and your store’s personality and give people a reason to put down their phone and walk through your door.

Twitter

While the same content you use on Facebook and Instagram can fit right in on Twitter, overall, Twitter tends to skew more conversational and informative. It may not attract customers in the same way as other channels, but it’s a great way to gather and spread news about your store and your industry and keep tabs on trade shows you may not be able to attend.

We’ve created this tweet for you to share with your followers. It isn’t product-specific but it will excite the Grommet fans who are also fans of your store.

Come see what we found! Products from @TheGrommet have arrived and we can’t wait for you to see them! #ShopLocal #ShopSmall #DiscoverWhatsNext

For product-specific tweets, we recommend taking a picture of the Grommet and writing a catchy blurb. If you need help coming up with ideas, you can enter your shipment number here to discover the story and the Maker behind each Grommet that you purchased.

In closing, don’t be shy. Encourage your customers to follow you on all of your social media channels because you know the drill. More followers lead to more likes which lead to even more followers who then turn into new customers and even more followers.

Our final request is to tag us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram @TheGrommetB2B. We love getting a glimpse of your store–and we will always be one of the first ones to like/share/retweet your posts.

Happy posting!
