Not so happy

8/18/2019 by Donna

Not so pleased. Put the butter in the dish, left it on the counter to get room temperature, and then the butter proceeded to melt and leak from the dish all over the counter. Made a huge mess.

needs a little help still

I have always had a butter dish. What appealed to me is that it was all one piece, and the knife holder. I find the knife a little too thick so it never cuts the butter evenly. When it is warm out, the melted butter somehow leaks out the back or bottom and leaves a greasy mark on the counter.

Not happy!

I m disappointed in this beautiful butter dish. It doesn't do the job. Even though it is not at all hot in our apartment, when left out on the counter the butter in this dish softens to the point of melting around the edges.

Messy

The dish gets very messy. The knife gets butter all over the outside. The butter is not soft at all.

Nothing Special

2/17/2019 by Janet

I ordered this thinking it might have some new technique to seal and help preserve my butter when left out on the counter. No such thing. It is merely a plastic covered butter dish. My china covered butter dish does the same job and is far more attractive while doing it.

OK - no better than inexpensive plastic

It is no less messy or more attractive than the inexpensive clear plastic dish it replaced -- butter smears all over front, back, and sides. But, it is no worse either.

Needs some design modifications

Overall, this is a decent product. There are several attractive colors from which to choose, and the plastic is durable and easy to clean. It has a silicone trim on the base to keep the dish from slipping on smooth surfaces. It has another silicone trim piece on the flip-top cover to make it easier to open and close the lid with wet or greasy fingers. The surface of the tray portion is lightly textured to give the softened butter a little bit of "grab", making it less likely to slip off the tray when cutting into it. (*Note: You must put the stick or block of butter directly on the tray surface, without its paper wrapping, or it will slide all over the place.) The only real problem I have with the item is with the design of the knife and knife tray. The knife tray will only hold the knife when the dish is sitting still on a flat surface As soon as you pick the dish up, you can expect the knife to slide right off onto the counter or floor. If the manufacturer had simply designed the tray a little differently, they could've made it so the knife would snap gently into place when not in use. Or, they could've coated the knife handle in the same silicone material used on the trim pieces mentioned above, and that would've given it enough traction to prevent the knife from falling off the tray every time you pick up the dish. In the meantime, just hold onto the knife before moving the dish, and all will be well. I would've given this product 4 stars if it weren't for the design issues with the knife and knife tray.

Not a space saver!

This thing is a clumsy size and takes up a lot of space on the counter. Seemed like a good idea but really not so much! Plus its plastic instead of glass
Wouldnt buy this again.

Easy to clean, but not very attractive on the countertop!

I takes up more counter space than I thought.

The Butterie Story

Butterie | Flip-Top Butter Dish & Spreader

Countertop Butter

Butterie™ creator Joelle Mertzel made her own countertop butter dish when she learned that butter doesn't have to go in the fridge, and that storing it at room temperature can enhance the flavor.

Before refrigerators existed, everyone kept their butter in a crock on the counter or in a cabinet. Joelle took that idea and improved upon it. Her dish has a flip-top lid that blocks light and reduces the butter’s exposure to oxygen, helping it stay fresh for longer.

Butterie™ is compact enough to fit almost anywhere, and sized to hold two sticks of butter. It comes apart for easy cleaning and can go
in the dishwasher, too. There’s a built-in spot for resting a knife (or the included spreader) and a hidden ledge for scraping it clean. This reinvented butter dish makes it easy (and cleaner) to have fresh, soft butter always on hand. Read More Read Less
