It works ok but kind of flimsy .
Would rather have had something more heavy duty.

I bought this several months ago for our small office and just opened it. I wanted to block out product info on a package and did have to go over it several times . It did not effectively block the wording, but I thought it was because I washing it on cardboard. However, the real problem was the leaking at the seam. What a mess - with I had read the reviews before purchasing. Great idea - poorly executed.

Nice idea, but...

it doesn't really work very well in use. In most cases, it takes two or more sweeps to really cover what's needed. Too often you can still see the info, especially if the print is shiny. I bought two of these, the first one broke and the second one leaked ink all over the place after only a few uses. Had to toss them both before I could get my money's worth out of them. I like the idea of covering up info I don't want seen over shredding it, but I'll look for a better option.

Same here, not a one swipe and done.

I was really excited about this. I hoped I wouldn't always have to cut or tear my name and address off of magazines or junk mail and then shred it. But when I tried this, I found that, more often than not, even when rolling this in all directions, if I held the paper near a light, my name and address still shone through. It has to do with the ink the senders use - it's shiny and somehow shows through. I'm sorry this doesn't solve my problem -- I'm still using my shredder most of the time.

Poor quality

The first time I tried using the wide identity protection roller the ink leaked out of the seam near the plunger. It was a total mess to clean up the ink from the work area, and fingers/hand. Very frustrating!

Major Disappointment

As someone dealing with an estate and a business, I was very happy to get the Guard Your ID roller. It seemed like it would be so much better than dealing with CONSTANTLY shredding document. It seemed too good to be true...and I learned quickly when it was exactly that.

First thing first - the one swipe and you are done. Typically with any document, I would have to do it in every direction, around 3-5 times to get it to truly COVER the mailing area in any document. It just did not want to cover with 1-2 swipes. By the time I was done, it just looked like a giant ink blob. With the amount of effort it took though, this wasn't a huge deal to me. As long as it covered the information, I was good.

After finished a giant stack of document though, I learned that this was TRULY a waste of my time. The moment I picked up my first document and put it to the light...I saw my information THROUGH the ink. It covered absolutely nothing! Pretty much every ink type used for mail, magazines, and government documents showed through the moment it was put up to any form of light.

This seemed so great in theory but failed in actual practice. Now I have a very fancy stamper, extra ink for said stamper, and a hope that the technology will improve. The only reason I haven't returned the stamper and ink to The Grommet is I'm hoping they come out with a better working ink. If the ink would actually protect information, this would be PERFECT for every business owner. Right now though....sadness. :(

The Guard Your ID Story

Guard Your ID | Identity Protection Stamps & Rollers

Information Guard

Locking down sensitive information is as easy as a quick roll (or stamp). The identity theft protection stamps and rollers from Guard Your ID shield your privacy on things like mail, bank statements, and even prescription bottles.

The stamps and rollers all deliver an encrypted pattern that renders text unreadable. The specialty roller uses a unique ink formula that works on glossy finishes—like postcards and labels—without smearing or rubbing off. And it’s shaped to work on uneven and curved surfaces, like prescription bottles. The wide roller and stamp use oil-based ink that penetrates
non-glossy paper, so information on bills, checks, tax returns and more is blocked on the front and back.

Using a stamp or roller is more convenient than shredding and more environmentally friendly, too. Paper is often un-recyclable once it has been shredded.

Whether you roll or stamp, it’s a quick and easy step to ensure your information stays private.
