Nice Kit

12/30/2013 by marcia

This was a Christmas present for our son. He has not had time to make cheese yet, but looking forward to doing so. I got it for him because he makes his own cottage cheese and butter. When he makes the cheese I will update this review.

Super Fun & Tasty Too!!

12/10/2013 by Sara

I originally started with the simplest Paneer/Queso Blanco box. So tasty! I experimented with a few different flavors and shared with friends and coworkers. They all were amazed at my ability to make my own cheese (they thought it was tasty too). What they had a hard time believing was that it was easy too!!
I bought the Deluxe box to share in the cheese-making fun with family while home for Thanksgiving. Instead of sitting around watching TV, I plan on dragging the nieces into making a few batches with me. I'm not much of a cook but to me it felt like a fun chemistry experiment. Everything but the milk is included!!
The only thing that's a little annoying (but far from a deal breaker) is that you have to hold the thermometer, it does not clip to the side of your pan.

What a neat gift this will be!

11/14/2013 by Kim

The kit came very quickly. I wish I could review it, but it is for a Christmas gift and I cannot. I know they will love it and I loved the idea of it the minute I saw it. I will say I tried to buy it locally and the store that did carry them had the small kits, but not the largest kit that makes all the types of cheeses. So I ordered online and I am very satisfied with that as I was offered free shipping. Thanks so much.

Successful results

3/2/2017 by Khitam

I bought this for my dad who was trying to make cheese on his own to no avail. I decided to buy this for him and his first attempt was a rich smooth cream cheese. By the way, my dad has a tendency to be impatient and assume things aren't necessary but he followed the directions. He was excited and liked that everything was provided for him to succeed. Thanks for the product.

Pricey, but nicely-done cheesemaking kit. Fun illustrations and very good directions. Easy to make cheese.

I purchased two kits for Christmas gifts for my family. My daughter and her partner absolutely love cheese and I thought this would give them a chance to try different cheeses with different herbs. My son is into smoking meats and I thought this would be a good gift for him and his girlfriend. She can either make the cheese herself or the two of them can make it together and again try different ones and different flavors. Will have to wait and see what they all say about their kits. I think they will be favorable.

cheese craft

nicely packed with easy recipes.A bit expensive considering you receive salt and citric acid which I already had. A packet of one popular herb would make it fun so that you could feel more confident trying another herb.

AWESOME fun - AND delicious

2/8/2014 by Karen

A bit of assistance was required on the mozzarella - not entirely clear what to do if NOT using the microwave ... by the third batch we had it down!
BTW, the goats milk available in supermarkets IS 'ultra-pasteurized', and the cheese came out BEAUTIFULLY! (instructions indicate ultra-pasteurization can delay curdling).

A great gift for a cheese lover...

1/3/2018 by Susan

I gave this as a holiday gift to a cheese lover. They reviewed the instructions and said it was pretty straightforward. Hopefully, they enjoy it as much as I enjoyed buying it.

The Urban Cheesecraft Story

Urban Cheesecraft - DIY Cheese Kits

Cheese Making 101

When Claudia Lucero set out to try her hand at cheesemaking, she was surprised at how difficult it was to find supplies and overwhelmed by some of the special equipment that some recipes required. After all, cheesemaking has been going on for centuries. Should it really be this complicated to try in a modern home? None of us has calibrated presses, humidity gauges, and acidity testers in our home kitchens.

After lots of research and perseverance, Claudia refined her own techniques for making fresh cheeses that don’t require aging and can be made at home with little or no special equipment. Now
she’s sharing her experience with fellow aspiring cheesemakers.

With an Urban Cheesecraft DIY Cheese Kit, all you need is a gallon of pasteurized milk (not ultra-pasteurized). The kits include the rest of the supplies such as cheesecloth, a dairy thermometer, vegetarian rennet, citric acid, and cheese salt. (Supplies vary depending on the kit you choose.) Just follow the instructions, and in about an hour, you’ll have fresh mozzarella, ricotta, queso blanco, paneer, or goat cheese. Once you get the hang of it, you can have fun experimenting with different spices, shapes, and recipes. Your taste buds will love the effort.
